Setting up Asterisk, error: Call failed: Request timeout

Postby mariordz » Fri May 21, 2010 5:54 am

Hi everyone, I really hope someone can help me or put me in the right direction about my problem.

I am completely new at the linux/asterisk world and trying to set up an asterisk server for testing internally on my LAN. Reading here and there I was able to install the asterisk server using asterisk now which is installed with the following components:

Centos 5.5
Asterisk 1.4.24
FreePBX 2.5.1.0

I set up two extensions using my browser to the IP address of my Asterisk server, that part was OK. Then I instaled X-lite 3 on two machines and configured the estensions information generated on the server but when trying to call from one another I got rhe message "Call failed: request timeot" and a lady's voice telling me "the person I am calling is unavailable, try agian"

I also read in another post that I had to configure the file sip.conf and extensions.conf (/etc/asterisk/sip.conf and /etc/asterisk/extensions.conf) and put there the information about my extensions. So I did, but still the same result and more doubts:
1. If I manually set up extensions in the files described. Why Can't I see those extension in the FreePBX screen?
2. When generating the extensions in the freePBX page. Should not them be registered in those files as well?
3. Am I trying to reach the extension generated manually or the ones generated on the FreePBX page?

I'd really appreciate the help you can provide.

PD I see on the FreePBX page that there are several pakages to update, would someone be so kind as to tell me how to install these upgrades? Should I just write "yum asterisk update" at the command prompt in the asterisk server?

Thanks in advance for your help

If you want help with asterisk, you should post in an asterisk forum (there are plenty). No one here is likely to be able or willing to help you with that.

Kamen, thanks for your answer.

Technically I am having problem with X-lite, as I said the asterisk server is up and running, but I am not able to make calls.

In this scenario Asterisk and X-lite are very tied to one another, I mean you have to have both of them working in order to make a call. It is not like "I did my part and I don't care about the rest" the blogs and forums are here to help newbies like me to get on their feet with this new technllogies (at least for me)

Regards.
