Terrible Background Noise

Installed latest X-Lite (ver 3xx and 4.0 beta) with default settings - Same problem.
Using two different headsets Plantronics USB & Analog headset plugged into Microphone and earphone jack - Same Problem
Same Problem occurs when calling any softphone on our network, external cell phone and some (but not all) external land lines

The problem does NOT occur with other sound or recording software (including SKYPE)

The Problem: Terrible background noise... almost sounds like a constant hiss... so bad, that people I call cannot tell who I am or what I am saying.


Running Windows 7 with all latest updates
Lenovo ThinkPad T-61 with latest soud card drivers

Any ideas??

Have you tried installing and running X-Lite 3.0 in compatibility mode? (See http://forums.counterpath.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16635.) X-Lite does have a weird way of operating Windows sound, have you tried playing with the mixer? That is, in "Playback", muting any sources that you don't need, in "Record", manually selecting the recording source. Also, in X-Lite find the AEC/AGC and noise reduction and try different combinations.
