Outbound calls fail when registered to Fritz!Box

Postby Antares » Wed May 12, 2010 9:05 pm

Hi
I am using X-Lite 3.0 and a Fritz!Box 7170 (Annex A) with Firmware 58.04.76, see “http://www.avm.de/de/Service/Service-Portale/Service-Portal/index.php?portal=FRITZ!Box_Fon_WLAN_7170” and Windows XP prof.

This Fritz!Box has a built-in SIP Server. The User Name „620“ for the SIP Client to log in the Fritz!Box is predefined. Proxy or Registrar is the private IP-Adresse of the Fritz!Box, in my case 192.168.58.23. This Fritz!Box is also the gateway in my small LAN and the ADSL-Adapter, the Firewall, DHCP-Server and the Switch.
Problem: Outbound calls fail with X-Lite. It displays the message: „Call failed: Busy Here“, although the number I called, e.g. my cellular phone, is definitely not busy.
Inbound calls work without problems.
My Settings:
Display name, User name and Authorisation user name: 620
Domain: 192.168.58.23
Domain Proxy: Checkmark at Register with Domain and receive incoming calls
Send outbound via: Dot at proxy, Address 192.168.58.23:5060
Dialing plan: #1\a\a.T;match=1;prestrip=2;
I assume that the problem is not said Fritz!Box. With another Softphone (Phoner, “http://www.phoner.de/”) I can perform outbound calls over the SIP-Server of the Fritz!Box. Since there is an unsolved problem with Phoner, I decided to use X-Lite.
When I log in with X-Lite directly at my SIP-Provider (not over said Fritz!Box) also the outbound calls work fine.
Who helps me to solve that puzzle? Thank you for your help

Antares, I really have no idea what could be happening as this setup is quite unusual (i.e., having the VoIP server locally and it being of a rare kind). It might help a bit if you would post a screen capture of your configuration screen.
Derek, it would be nice if X-Lite displayed the full standard SIP 2.0 response code instead of a description. Is this a 486 error? Because if it is, it doesn't make much sense as he said that using another softphone he can get through. A bit more detailed diagnostic information coming from X-Lite (or any of your other softphones) would be a nice future addition, especially with dwindling support.

Kamen, thank you very much for your answer. I intended to add screen captures to my previous question. But so far, I found no way to attach them. To whom can I e-mail them?
I looked in the diagnostic folder for hints to the solution of the problem. This folder “C:\DOKUME~1\Ruedi\LOKALE~1\Temp\CounterPath\X-Lite” is empty.

For screen captures and other files, I like to use the free service at http://tinypic.com/. Just upload your picture and put here a reference to it, that'll do it. As for diagnostics, you'll need to enabled them. Go to Options -> Advanced -> Diagnostics and turn them on.

Kamen, I uploaded following screen captures to http://tinypic.com/1r53povn:

1_ normally registered.jpg; 2_ functioning inbound call.jpg; 3_ Attempt to dial out.jpg; 4_ outbound call failed.jpg; 5_ Settings 1_5.jpg; 6_ Settings 2_5.jpg; 7_ Settings 3_5.jpg; 8_ Settings 4_5.jpg; 9_ Settings 5_5.jpg; 10_ Settings of Softphone Phoner functioning.jpg

Unfortunately, they appear in the opposite order, not in sequence as listed above.

Meanwhile I activated diagnostic logging at debug level. I just launched X-Lite and attempted to call 079 633 27 77. The resulting text-file “eyeBeamLog_100515_141436_0.txt” (331 KB) cannot be uploaded to tinypic. How can I make it available to you?

Thank you for your help

I don't really see any problems with your registration configuration but you do have a unique setup. I have one question: under "Proxy address" you have "192.168.58.23:5060", which would mean that 5060 is the port on the Fritz!Box, i.e., the latter should be accepting connections on this port. Is that right? On your Phoner setup, it does say "Local port = 5060" but I think that might be the local port on your client, i.e., where your X-Lite is. You should test that assumption by seeing if the Fritz!Box accepts connections on port 5060 (e.g., try telnetting to it). I would at least try without it (i.e., put only "192.168.58.23" in the proxy field). It is also not clear from your Phoner screen whether the registration domain is also 192.168.58.23 but that appears to be the case. I really don't know what else to suggest. As for the diagnostics log, if it's text, why don't you just post it here in a message body? But I doubt I'll have time to analyze it thoroughly. After all, it is a CounterPath proprietary log and only they really know what it means.

Kamen, when I use just 192.168.58.23 (withount :5060) as Proxy address, the result is the same.
With telnet I have no experience. However I tried it, see two screen captures in album “Telnet” of http://tinypic.com/1r53povn
In the command window I tried with “telnet 152.168.58.23”. Apparently it used port 23 and could not get further.
With “telnet 152.168.58.23 5060” I came to a new window with header “Telnet 152.168.58.23”. However, in that window I got stuck.
The diagnostic log is really much too long, 331 KB. I feel it would not make sense to insert it in this message as suggested. But I hope that somebody form CounterPath follows this thread and tells me where to e-mail it and then finds the solution of the puzzle.
Thank you

Apparently, the box does accept connections to port 5060, so your setup seems correct. I don't know what else to suggest but possibly start looking for a different softphone.
