X-Lite Echo Issues

Postby drewsonian » Mon Apr 05, 2010 10:48 am

I'm using X-Lite with a Plantronics DA45 USB Adapter and a Plantronics H251N headset. When I make calls, I get different levels of echo from call to call, sometimes very bad and loud, other times barely noticeable. I've tried a few other softphones don't have this problem, so I'm confident that the issue is in X-Lite or its configuration. I've turned on every echo cancellation setting I can find in X-Lite. Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks!

We were able to solve this problem - we downgraded all of our DA-45s to DA-40s, which do not have echo cancellation. In an obscure article somewhere on the web, I found that having multiple echo cancellation engines inline between headset and outbound lines will cause worse echo! Our setup includes hardware based echo cancellation on our Asterisk PBX, so it was conflicting with the echo cancellation on the DA-45s. We've had little problems since, other than some computer models causing some echo here and there.

I couldn't believe it, though... downgrading hardware actually fixed a problem!
